Pool

Pool sessions will begin Wed. December 7th, 2011, and continue Wednesday nights from 7:30 pm - 10:00pm through May 30th.

Classes

Classes are held every week in a four-week rotation, Individual Classes $50 or 4-week progression $180.

Classes include all equipment needed. Just come prepared to get wet.

  • Week 1 Introduction to kayaking
  • Week 2 Intermediate skills and techniques
  • Week 3 Eskimo Rolling I
  • Week 4 Eskimo Rolling II

Introduction to Sea Kayaking

In this beginners class you will learn Types and parts of the kayak, Proper fit, paddle stroke techniques, wet exits ( how to exit the kayak in the event of a capsize) and assisted T-rescues and cowboy rescue.(how to get back in your kayak). This two hour class teaches you all the basics and is good for 1st time paddlers or seasoned paddlers who have never learned the necessary basics.

Intermediate Skills and Techniques

You will learn Braces ( capsize prevention), Draw strokes ( manuvering your boat side to side), theory of the hip snap (balance and body movement), Paddle Float rescue (self-rescue) and Bow rescue( partner assisted rescue).

Eskimo Rolling I

The Eskimo roll is a fun rescue that allows you to cool off and stay in your boat. Ding a roll is all in the technique. Part I is understanding the theory of the roll and breaking down each step into an individual technique. Learn each step and practice each technique.

Eskimo Rolling II

Once you understand and practice each technique, we will put them all together and execute the roll.

Open Pool

The Open Pool session is not a class and you may do whatever you like during the session; meet old friends, make new ones, learn a new trick, revive a rusting old skill, or just mess around in the boat for a while. This is a great place to introduce a friend to canoeing or kayaking in a safe, warm water, controlled environment. The open pool fee is $15/person/session. Students and children accompanied by parents pay $10. There are 26 sessions.

students price: $10 / person

Season pool pass: $200 / person

You can bring your own boat & gear or rent a kayak and gear.   Rentals:  Whitewater or Sea kayak, with paddle and spray skirt, only $10. (on a first come, first serve basis, or call to reserve)
